Christmas Time is Near

Recently, I heard a news item about apps that help to diagnose Alzheimer's. I thought that was interesting and saved the article.

Also, I love to make hot cocoa from scratch on Christmas Eve with my girls and watch "Polar Express." In the past we would also make popcorn and eat popcorn, but the girls have braces so many things are not allowed, so I am saving all kinds of fun things we can make together.

I love the Grinch! I love what he says about buying things for people to only have it thrown away! I saw this Grinch in Whitehaven and it was so funny, I had to save it for future watching because it is the truth and funny all at the same time.

This is a really good info on where to learn Sign Language.

Back to the Grind Stone

I have goals. I imagine many people have goals. I want to get my girls out of high school and into college. I want to learn new things every day. I want to get the email cleared out, so that I don't have to work on it almost daily to keep it manageable.

Yesterday, I was able to get the number below 2000, but today, it is back to 2000. This is a daily task to get the number down and I know that my next goal needs to be under 1500. I figure if I go by 500, I can manage getting it finished. The reason I look at it that way is because I do teach my kids daily, I do laundry every day, I do cook every day, I do the dishes every day, I also want to read daily and I want to knit/crochet/counted cross stitch daily. I also have errands to run and I have to take my girls to their activities, daily. When you have things to do, you can't spend whole days on the computer. I spend a few hours whenever I can get on the computer. Also, right now, I am working out a pattern for a friend. So that will be fun to get together and get that posted. All things happen for a reason. I know that I am happier.

Everyone is responsible for their own happiness. But it is fun to spread happiness, too. We have cats and they love to watch out the windows, but what do cats like to watch? Birds! At least my cats, do. So we started getting bird feeders. We started small. Just a little one here or there. A suet feeder. Today, we now have a bigger feeder for woodpeckers, etc. We have a large feeder with wild bird food. We have a small feeder with sunflowers, a small feeder for finches, and a small feeder for wild birds. The birds congregate in our yard. The cats are going crazy! There are so many birds and one cat wants to hunt. We have a deal, though, we only feed the birds in the winter. We feed the birds that didn't go south. They are the ones that would starve. But come spring time, we stop buying the feed and the birds are on their own. But the birds hang out in our garden, because we grow things that have seeds. We do that intentionally. We also grow things that butterflies like and hummingbirds.

Now to spread the happiness of patterns from my email. Patterns that will allow me to make things that maybe others would enjoy.

Back to the Email

So, after taking a few days off from looking at the blog, the emails or too much else, time to get back to work. Today, I am starting at 2147! It is a good number, especially as this is about 500 less than where I started! I now have the goal of getting it below 2000 by the end of this week. I have also made 2 dishcloths, while I was off the computer. One was just a plain, use up the left over from the Halloween Cat dishcloth. It was a really pretty yarn and smelled so nice while I was using it. But you couldn't see the pattern. Have to remember that for future dishcloths. But right now, I had a friend give me some ends that she wanted used up. So that is what I will do and then I will give the final product to Dawn's Light. This is a great group of women who knit or crochet or sew. Things are made and given to people in need, through groups that the church supports.

New Year and Still Cleaning out the Email

New Years came in quietly. My children had given up and went to bed by 11:30. For that I am grateful. I am knitting and crocheting again. While many in my family do not appreciate what I make, there are those who do and I have decided to focus on those and on giving to people who need rather than people who don't. I got lucky yesterday and went to Michael's Arts and Crafts and found the calendars that I had made as gifts in the past. They were $0.45 each and now I can find photos for them and make them and give them to people who will appreciate them. I think I will have the photos printed locally, unless printing and having sent works better. I will see when I get to that point. Since I only bought a few and my husband agrees we should make a few and give them to people I hadn't thought about giving one to, but a good idea all around. But for now, I need to get the laundry running (a never ending chore), get the dishes washed and a microwave installed (yep, another bit the dust) and just get out of the house for a little while, even if it is only for a drive. Get the kids away from the tvs for awhile. They do enjoy drives and maybe we can just spend some time laughing together. My kids are fun and I am grateful that I have them in my life.

Just a quick note: as of 1/1/2016 the email count is 2229! As of 1/ 3/2016 the email count is 2214.

Still working on the Email

Yeah, I am still clearing out the email. I know that this is continuing, but there are really that many. I have patterns that I want to make for myself, my children, my husband, my nieces (from MD). My one sister says that she really likes the dishcloths that I made her and that due to use they need to be replaced. I guess I should get to work on that as Christmas is right around the corner. So many things to make and save. I am also working on my mom's recipe blog. My mom passed in August and there are recipes that we all want, so this way they are available to all of us. My brother wants a vegetable recipe, but I haven't found the one he wants yet, so I have to keep working on that. I also have 3 children who want to work on Tinkercad. It is a way for them to make something and then use a 3D printer to print what they made. But in order for the younger two to use it, I have to print a permission form and then send it back...yep, like that will happen. It is just easier to open one account (mine) and the let them work on it. We are fortunate that we have access to a 3D computer and there are people who can teach them how to use the different sites (safely) and print with the printer. They have learned how to write programs, also. Our library system is that good.

2 of my nieces have American Girl dolls and so patterns to make the dolls clothes are prime! I even have 1 niece who wants to knit so she can make things for her doll. I do love my nieces.

More from the Email

Yes, I am still working on cleaning out my email. I have been busy running the girls to their various activities and this means I spend a lot of time on the road and then when I am finished I have things that I have to do around the house. I am also making cookies for Christmas this year. I don't plan on giving any to certain people, and for the diabetic family, I will make some special sugar free cookies after Christmas. By then I should be able to get the items I need to make sugar - free cookies without using sugar or Splenda or things like that. I have noticed that our local Kroger has been out of items that I usually purchase and I have to go back more often than I would like. But I can handle it, but I didn't like the new manager's attitude that it was because of our location rather than order foul ups or low amounts available. I think I will be talking to the general manager and see what can be accomplished there instead. Let's start with the count (keeping in mind that it increases with new emails, but I am trying to clear those as they come in, rather than accumulating like I did with the old emails), it is 2360 (and it is Saturday). When posted (Wednesday), the count is 2314! Yay! I am slowly getting there! I also found some of my favorite designers, I remembered the pattern, but forgot their names.

I am saving this whole site, because she has so much on it that I have made and loved to make. RaAnn is very talented and I am grateful for her site Wicket Stitch Handcrafts.

Plarn. What is it? It is yarn made from plastic bags you get from stores. It is fun to make and makes pretty sturdy items, like mats for homeless or bags for groceries. You can google how to make it.

While I am remembering, if you click on a link that isn't working, go to The Way Back Machine. This site is phenomenal! You can get to the site as it used to look before it was canceled. You can see what used to be posted. Remember, everything posted to the net is always there! There are ways to get it back, but this is one of my all time favorites.

Still Cleaning Out My Email

Yahoo sent me an email (that went to my spam folder) that said I had too much in my folder. I needed to do something or I wouldn't be able to send emails or open them soon.....My solution? Place the pattern links that I like here and save them this way. So far I have 3 days worth, but so many more to go. Takes a long time, but I will get it finished.

As I sit at my computer watching the wind blow and listen to the tv programs that I taped for the girls for school lessons (it matches up with book work and writing). I will work my way through the older emails first since many of the links do not work anymore. That is sad.
