Goddess on the Mountaintop....

In my emails was this collection of patterns with references to goddesses. It is fun and interesting to look at the gods and goddesses of Rome, Greece and the Norse. Also any others that I come across. It is interesting to see what other societies believed and thought and how they ordered their lives.

  1. Venus - Goddess of love
  2. Minerva - Goddess of wisdom
  3. Juno - Queen of the gods
  4. Vesta - Goddess of the home
  5. Aurora - Goddess of the dawn
  6. Luna - Goddess of the moon
  7. Iris - Goddess of rainbows
  8. Victoria - Goddess of triumph

Weekend? Are you Sure?

Some say that this is the beginning of the weekend, but I am going to question that. I guess because I am always doing something. I have about 6 or more loads of laundry to do today, I need to go through the emails some more and clear more out. I need to do my Bible readings (and get caught up) and I need to fill bird feeders. My girls are wanting to enter another baking contest (there is one a year at a nearby library...Washington-Centerville....they have different groups, kids and teens) and they want to practice some different things and see what they end up liking. I finished 2 books and I need to finish a few more, I just can't decide which one I want to work on next. I need to work on the socks for my nephew, but every time I sit, I am being pestered by my critters to love on them. (It never ends, but I love them so very much). What is your favorite baked good and where did you find the recipe?

Sicilian Cannoli

I haven't had much time to work on emptying the email and I am dreading seeing how bad it is. I am certain that it is over 200, I know that I can get it down quickly, I just need to work on it.

Here is something fun, it is a CAL Calendar and has daily things to make. Here is a Stash Buster. It will help you use up all those small amounts of left over yarn that you just cannot throw away. Here is a link to Moogly Blog and her Hookin' on Hump Day. I saved this one because it had some things I am interested in making. Then I also found the "Look Books" from Yarnspirations. They are fun and full of great patterns.

Friday is Here!

Tonight, I am reading, we are to have a Snow Moon (February Full Moon), a comet and an eclipse. Should be fun to see. I am also going to try and get some of these emails removed, again. They grow faster than I can remove them. I am also sitting at my back window with one of my cats, watching a bird eating from the feeder. We don't have as many birds as previous years, it seems the hawks view this as prime feeding area and it keeps the birds a little more concealed.

What is your Friday shaping up to look like?

Board Game Afghans

In my email, there was one labeled Christening blankets, but I don't have anyone I know having a baby and I really don't like making plain white blankets. I didn't delete outright and I am glad, as there are links for afghans that can be made to look like game boards. My girls and I love to play board games, even going to board game nights at the local library.

More Warm Weather....Tornadoes in February

Went to my sister-in-law's house for Super Bowl and it was a great time. Plenty of food and great people and my dad went along and had a good time. He got to watch the game and visit with many other people and see his granddaughters two days in a row. He was cheering for the Falcons and I was cheering for the Patriots, my husband was cheering for the Falcons and said, "Looks like it is finished. Falcons are going to win." He he he...Pats Won! We finished listening to the game on the trip home, as it was so late and we needed to go home so we could get some rest since the day had to start early for us. The weather kept getting warm, Sunday was in the 40's, Monday was in the 50's and today, Tuesday, we are waiting on some serious weather. In fact, NOLA was hit by a tornado and they were unprepared. I am taking some time today to work on my email and get it cleaned out a little. It is hard to be online when there are 3 kids online for their school every day. When the evening comes I just want to be quiet and knit or crochet. I finished a shawl for myself and finished a couple of hats. I discovered that you can easily get 3 hats from one Caron Cake. I love the Caron Cakes and love the colors. My youngest picked out another Cake for herself and wants a hat and mittens from it. I need to finish up some other things and I think I will work on a blanket tonight and see if I can't finish it up.

The Struggle is Real

We have Five pets. Yep, that number is correct. We have four cats and one dog. We had been discussing purchasing an electric blanket to have on hand for when we have one visitor who is cold while the rest of the visitors are comfortable. (What can I say, I am going through menopause and I know others who are there or coming up on it quickly.) I then plugged in the blanket to make sure that it worked and it became a hit with the cats, especially my newest rescue, Bill. I had thrown it over a chair and when I went to sit in the chair, I tossed the blanket onto the floor. Then Bill climbed into the center of the blanket.

Later, I had folded the blanket up and put it where I thought (silly me) that it would be safe. That if a cat lay on it, it would be on top. Nope, here comes Bill, he is informing me that this is for him and I need to let him go where he wants with the blanket.

We moved some furniture around and George....see below, decided he needed to go behind the couch and we got tired of having to rescue cats from behind the couch. We placed something in the area where the cat would climb back. He is determined to get behind that couch. He will stop at nothing to get there....even looking for any gap that he could fit through...he is a big cat, now. He was such a tiny kitten when we got him.

Lily is our rescue dog, she is a sweet girl and well loved. She is 40 pounds of pure muscle and will pull people down when she is on a leash, but she is super careful around people who don't move well (aka people on walkers or in wheelchairs). She demands her fair share of loving from anyone she can. She loves to have her belly rubbed.
Lucky, is a female rescue. She showed up in our back yard and it took a long time to get her to trust me and then she is my devoted cat. She stays wherever I am. She likes to sit on me when I sit somewhere she can sit on me. When I don't she stares at me and head butts me.
Bill, loves boxes and anything soft. So if you put a box on the floor and put something soft (like yarn) in it, he will sit. Remember the old saying, if it fits, I sits? That is my boy.
This has started to happen more often. When I sit at night and put up my legs, I can expect 3 out of 4 cats to sit on my legs.

The last cat, is my rescue from the back yard also. He is black like his sister and has similar markings, but he is bigger than her. He talks to me. He walks around the house, saying, "Out." He wants to go in and out of the house. We keep telling him that he is an indoor only cat and that he cannot go out any longer. It seems that our area is getting more coyotes and the hawks have moved into our side yard. I love this bad cat, but he still wants to wonder outside. At night, he likes to sleep on my ankles. When I want to change positions, I have to wake up, pick him up and then change positions and then I usually tuck him into the bed covers with me. He purrs me to sleep.

Best animals are those that are rescued. They love you through it all because they remember the cages and they remember their hard lives. They are loving and good company. Remember if you want an animal, don't shop, adopt.

What kinds of animals do you have?

Hump Day!

Yep, I am celebrating hump day. Wednesday for me is when I get a little break from my kids (leave them work to do and check that it gets accomplished or they don't get what they want....Teen Cafe). I meet up with friends a local fast food place and we have our own private SNB (Stitch and B.tch) or Knitter Knatter. We work on projects, play show and tell and talk. Talk about all things that are happening. It is a time where we are with others and we get to converse with others and have someone listen to us and hear our problems and help us and support us as we go through our days. It is a time to celebrate the good things in our lives and laugh over the things that weren't funny at the time, but we are laughing about now. It is a time that we all look forward to. I belong to a group at a church, but it seems that getting to the program has been difficult as it seems to land at the same time as my husband's Men's Breakfast, but my girls are getting older and we can leave them home alone. I miss those ladies. It is good to see them and be with them. I need to make some things for them for their program, but I actually just didn't get too many things made recently and just trying to work on a few things and finish them is my plan.

Something to think about...how the debt of our country increases daily: US National Debt Clock

On the homeschool front, I found this on FB and really need to save for my kids....Interactive Periodic Table. I printed them each a copy and they groaned as if I had given them something terrible, but it is actually fun and when they finally looked at it, they had some fun with it.

I feel the need to say something about colors, when I first learned how to cross stitch (aka Counted Cross Stitch), my friend who was teaching me said that color listings are a suggestion, you can change the colors and have fun with it. The same holds true with these patterns. You can change the type of yarn (say it lists Lion Brand and you want to use Red Heart) as long as the weight matches. You can change the colors so that it is something you like. Have fun with the patterns and fun with the colors and enjoy the making of things. Don't ever let someone destroy your love of knitting, crochet, sewing or cross stitch (or anything I haven't listed). If someone says horrible things about what you made, don't ever make them anything ever again. Continue to make and create and give to people through charities, they are more worthy of your gift than the person who says horrible things about what you made.
