I think it would be interesting to read books that are associated with a state.
I have read, in the past, MA - "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau, MO - "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain, NY - "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, VA - "Bridge to Terabithia" by Katherine Paterson, WV - "Shiloh" by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, WI - "Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Some not recently, some just last year (as in November or December).
Edited to add: I found another that says
23 books you should read in high school. So I am going to add that to my reading for the year. I read a lot of these in high school and college. In high school at the end of the year, many girls threw away the books. They hated them that much. I would retrieve the books and read them over the summer (I was told I was too stupid to participate in the classes that these books were read in). Most of these I have already read and I will re-read them, but there are a few I had not read.
