Time to clear the FB page, again.

I will again put the disclaimer...If you see a recipe that does not have credit, it means I didn't know who to credit. Please leave a message in comments and I will make that correction. I am using this as a place holder for recipes I want to make, patterns of things I want to make or Home Schooling sites that I might use later.

RESURRECTION ROLLS

Recipe and Instructions for Easter Rolls that tell the true meaning of Easter
which is the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This is an inspiring family project that can be done on Easter Morning....

Give each child one triangle of crescent rolls.
Explain that he crescent roll represents the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in.
Read Matthew 27: 57-61

1. Give each child a marshmallow.
This represents Jesus.

2. Have him/her dip the marshmallow in melted butter.
This represents the oils of embalming.

3. Now dip the buttered marshmallow in the cinnamon and sugar.
This represents the spices used to anoint the body.

4. Then wrap up the coated marshmallow tightly in the crescent roll (not like a typical crescent roll up, but bring the sides up and seal the marshmallow inside.)
This represents the wrapping of Jesus' body after death.

5. Place all in a 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes.
The oven represents the tomb--while you are waiting for the rolls to bake, read Matthew 27:62-66.

6. Remove rolls from oven and let them cool slightly.
Now the children can then open their rolls (cloths) and discover that Jesus is no longer there! HE IS RISEN!!!!
(The marshmallow melts and the crescent roll is puffed up, but empty.)

~ Now read Matthew 28:1-10

Zip Lock Baggies...........who knew?

We went with friends to a restaurant on Sunday for lunch and sat in the patio section beside the store. We happened to notice zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall. The bags were half filled with... ...water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut. Naturally we were curious! The owner told us that these baggies kept the flies away! So naturally we were even more curious! We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again. And there were no flies in the eating area!

05 April 2014

It is April!

So much has happened over the past few weeks. My uncle took a turn for the worse and passed away. He kept talking about my cousin's son's wedding day, how he would make it and then he passed away. The family is now dealing with this sadness. My Uncle.

We have a lot happening at the same time. We celebrated the birthdays of my cousin (Uncle's daughter), my aunt (they came down for the funeral), my sister (the one closest in age to me) and my anniversary and another cousin's birthday (grandson of Uncle). My girls also started spring break the same weekend. So glad we are homeschooling. The weather has been a cross between cold and wet and cold and sunny and then one hot and sunny. They could work on school work on the rainy, stormy days and then when the weather is nice we can take the day off and play outside or go somewhere.

Just with so much happening, I have fallen behind on moving things from my FB page to here, so it is time to catch up. Sorry if this becomes really long, but I saved a lot.

Easy Healthy 'Hash Browns'
(I tried googling to find this recipe to give proper credit but could not find it. If someone knows the correct link, please let me know).
Instead of grated Potatoes Try grated Zucchini…

2 Cups Zucchini, grated
1 Onion, chopped fine
4 Egg Whites
1/2 cup Whole Wheat Bread crumbs
1 tbsp Italian Seasoning or seasoning like basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme
2 tsp Garlic Powder
Sea Salt & Pepper to taste
Olive Oil

1. Preheat oven to 400F.
2. Grease a muffin tin with Oil
3. Grate the Zucchini
4. put in a towel to squeeze out the excess water. **This will keep your Bites from being Soggy. You want them crisp like hash browns… grated potatoes.
5. In a bowl combine Zucchini, Onion, Egg whites, Bread Crumbs, Seasonings
6. Using a spoon, fill muffin cups to the top and bake for 18-25 minutes or until the top is browned.

A Little Bragging, please.

My daughters participated in a baking contest at the Washington-Centerville Library.

There were only two prizes: Best Presentation and Best Taste.

My oldest decided to make a Red Velvet Cake. My friend Margaret, came up from KY on her day off and spent the whole day with us baking. She helped Hannah master the stand mixer and make this cake.

They made them into cupcakes for easy serving.

Red Velvet Cake from Margaret Morgan
½ cup Crisco
1 ½ cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 oz red food coloring
4 tbsp cocoa
2 eggs
1 tsp salt
1 cup butter milk
2 ¼ cup cake flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp vinegar

Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs. Mix food coloring with cocoa then add to the creamed mixture, add vanilla Add salt and buttermilk alternately with flour. Add vinegar mixed with soda. Bake in 3 layer pans (or cupcakes) at 177 degrees C. for 30 minutes. Place waxed paper in the bottom of the cake pan for easy removal of cake later.
Icing:
3 tbsp flour
1 cup milk
2 sticks butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Cook flour and milk until thick (bring to a boil, stirring constantly); cool. Cream butter (room temperature), sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Blend with cooled mixture. Beat well. Place between each layer and on top and sides of cake.

M&M Race Day Cookies made by my middle daughter won Best Taste. But then we played to an adult palate. They had dark chocolate M&M's and real butter.
She was so thrilled to win on taste.

My youngest wanted to make brownies. The ones I have been making since before she was born. She has never had a box brownie, because of this recipe.

The Best Brownies
1 cup veggie oil
2 cup sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4 eggs
1 cup all purpose flour
2/3 cup cocoa
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
½ cup mini m&m’s

Blend oil, sugar, vanilla and eggs in mixing bowl. Beat well with fork. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Gradually add to egg mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips. Spread in lightly greased 11 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 177 degrees C for 20 – 25 minutes.

There were many other contestants and the kids had a lot of fun. One young lady, brought these gorgeous cupcakes that she made. She told people quickly how she made them. They were well made.
